Mold Air Testing in Colorado Springs, CO
One of the biggest concerns that some of our clients have when purchasing a home is whether mold is present. Mold can be hazardous, especially to those who have respiratory issues, asthma, or allergies. Sometimes mold or moisture problems in a home are not visible. A mold air test can detect mold spores that are not visible. An air test is where a small mold pump sucks air through a cassette that acts as a filter, trapping mold spores that are floating in the air.
That cassette, called a spore trap, is then analyzed in a lab by a microbiologist to determine if the species and amount of mold is a concern. A report will be provided with details on the test. For a standard mold air test, one sample is collected on the exterior of the home.
This sample is used as a control sample. Another sample is collected on the interior of the home. Additional samples may be recommended by the inspector depending on the home, which would be at an additional cost. The lead time for receiving mold reports on an air test is 2-3 business days.
Mold Surface Test
Just like an air test, surface testing can determine the species of mold that is found in a home. Surface testing is ideal when there are areas in the home that appear to have mold growth present. A sample is collected from the area of concern by swabbing the area with something similar to a Q-tip, or a tape-lift method can be used.
The sample is then analyzed by a microbiologist to determine whether the substance is mold and what the species is. A report will then be provided with details on the test. There are different concerns associated with the different species of mold, so knowing the species is important. The lead time for receiving mold reports on a surface test is 2-3 business days.
